• Public transportation is essential for full participation in community life and activities, including educational, vocational, social, religious, recreational, and other endeavors.

• It is the inherent right of all people to have equal access to public transportation.

• Any system which limits participation on the basis of disability is discriminatory and unacceptable.

• Separate transportation facilities for persons with disabilities perpetuate dependence, segregation, and stigmatization and must be utilized only when necessary to meet the mobility needs of persons who are unable to use accessible facilities.

We call upon the Central New York Regional Transportation Authority (CNYRTA) to develop a fully accessible public transportation system. Specifically, we urge that all new buses purchased by CNYRTA be fully accessible to all people with disabilities or mobility impairments.
