Placement Transportation Information - Liverpool, Baldwinsville, and Solvay Middle School

The School of Education is not providing transportation for the Liverpool and Baldwinsville School Districts for the Spring of 2018.

To request transportation for the Fall 2017 semester, email soetransport@syr.edu with the following information:

  • Your Name
  • Course name and # requiring this placement (201, 304, Block 2, etc.)
  • School for your placement
  • Dates: (For example, January 15th-March 7th; or February 10th - March 6th)
  • Days of the week (For example, Mon. or Tues or M-F)
  • Times: Approximate time you are required to be at your placement and when you need to be picked up.

You will need to send your request by 1:00 p.m. at least 5 days before you need transportation and sooner if possible. If you do not email this info, you will not be able to ride the Ultimate Arrival bus and you will be responsible for getting to your placement on your own.

Bus Procedure

If you are NOT going to need transportation on a particular day when you are scheduled to ride the bus, you MUST email soetransport@syr.edu to inform us of this change by 1:00 p.m. of the work day before you will not be needing your ride. Failure to do this may result in the loss of transportation privileges. If there is a health or family emergency during the night, please email before 6:00 a.m. to avoid being taken off the SOE transportation list.

You will pick up the bus on College Place in front of Sims Hall.  There is a "Shaw Center / Say Yes / SOE” bus stop sign on the curb.

The buss will travel on predetermined routes that will go to a number of schools. The times and routes are set to accommodate a number of students placed at many schools in our community.

Arrive at least 5 minutes early to College Place. The bus will depart at its scheduled time, and is unable to wait for individual students or return to College Place to get students who were late.

If you miss the bus you are still required to be at your field placement. You are then responsible to provide your own transportation and assume the cost. A list of possible taxi companies is provided.

Fall 2017 Availability

The bus transportation system runs from Tuesday, September 5, 2017 - Friday, December 8, 2017.

The bus will not run when schools are closed:

  • Monday, October 9, 2017
  • Friday, November 10, 2017
  • Thursday, November 23, 2017
  • Friday, November 24, 2017

If you have a problem with the bus or it does not come to pick you up, call the Parking and Transit Department at SU at 315-443-4652,or text Thomas Bull at 315-440-2183, as they oversee the operations of the bus for the School of Education. You should carry those phone numbers with you to your placements. If you miss the bus from the College Place, calling that number will not make the bus turn around. In addition, please do not call the Shaw Center to help resolve any bus transportation issues.

Changes in Placement Schedules

Students are responsible for communicating any placement schedule changes that affects your need for transportation. Please keep in mind that once the semester begins that the transportation routes/schedules are set. This means that if your schedule changes or you need to make up time at a placement, the transportation may not be able to accommodate these changes.

What happens if school is closed or on a delay?

School closed - the bus will not run.

One- or Two-Hour School Delay - The bus will be able to provide transportation on a limited basis to schools with snow delays.

  • If there is a one or a two-hour delay, bus will operate the morning portion of the route, based on the length of the delay. For example, if there is a two hour delay in the Liverpool district, the 8:00 scheduled pick-up will still occur, but at 10:00 (at College Place).
  • Late morning and afternoon school pick-ups will occur as scheduled.
  • There will be NO placements for students who go for only the morning on snow delays. We will treat this like a 1/2 day snow day. SU students who were supposed to go for a morning half-day will not go to a placement that day. You will need to let the teachers you are working with know this ahead of time.
  • bus will pick up from schools on the regular schedule in the afternoon.
  • Students will need to make a plan ahead of time with other students from their same class for when snow-delays happen.
  • SU students are responsible to paying attention to schools closings and delays. All students who are going to schools on this bus route will follow the Liverpool School District delays and school closings.
