National Down Syndrome Society 2018 Buddy Walk

The Buddy Walk is a two mile walk to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
When: Sunday, September 30, 2018
Registration begins at 9:30 am, Walk begins at 10 am

2 Day Introductory Workshop in Supporting Communication:
Developing Frameworks for Support and Learning to be a Facilitator

This two-day workshop provides the opportunity to learn the techniques of facilitated communication within the context of the principles common to all communication support approaches.
When: October 1-2, 2018

Saturday Series

Gathering together for friendship, learning, and community practice. This is a chance for learning, fellowship, and lots of typing practice alongside other local typers and their families/facilitators.
When: September 15, 12-2 p.m.
October 13, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
November 10, 12-2 p.m. (at BETTS Branch Library, 4862 S Salina St, Syracuse)
December 8, 12-2 p.m.

Focus on Practice

These monthly sessions are designed for local facilitators and support people, and facilitator-typer teams, to come together and share challenges, successes, and best practices. Evening sessions are specifically for school-aged typers, school personnel, agency staff, and their families.
When: September 24, October 22, November 12, December 10
10 a.m.-12 p.m. AND 5-7 p.m.

Ongoing: Practice Room Open Hours

The ICI will continue offering our practice rooms for individuals to develop their supported typing skills. These sessions can be used for working towards independence, typing with an experienced facilitator or starting work with someone new. Learn more and reserve the ICI Practice Room

Pointing Foeward: Exploring the Research on Typing to Communicate - Webinar

In this interactive webinar hosted by the Wellspring Guild, Christy Ashby will discuss the current trends and historical conflicts in research concerning typing to communicate. She will present key issues in the research community and ways that we can move from research that seeks only to test validity and authorship toward research that helps us understand how to support people to become more effective and independent communicators. We will explore common research questions, methodologies, and ways to discuss research and respond to challenges.

A monthly meeting of Indy's typers with opportunities to share experiences, celebrate friendship and enjoy company of those who would like to join. Professionals are welcome to attend to learn more about supported typing.
