The School of Education offers several competitive scholarships. These scholarships are specific to the School of Education and vary in number of tuition credits and monetary awards.

Blumin Family Scholarshp
The scholarship created by Marlene Blumin and her family provides support to a graduate student enrolled in the School of Education with a preference given to a student majoring in literacy, special education and/or a focus on learning disabilities.

Board of Visitors Scholarship
Created by the School of Education's Board of Visitors, a group of active alumni, parents and friends; this scholarship provides financial assistance to graduate students enrolled in all programs and studies at the School of Education on the basis of merit and/or need.

Burton Blatt Scholarship
This scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students at the School of Education. Applicants are chosen both for merit and financial need with preference given to a minority candidate.

Dr. Barbara Irvine Shineman Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is open to graduate students at the School of Education who have completed their course of studies at State University of New York  at Oswego.

Graduate School Scholarship
This scholarship is open to all graduate students at the School of Education.

Gula M. Moench Grad. Fellowship in Education
This scholarship is open to any full-time female graduate student from New Jersey and or Maryland. Other graduate student applicants will be considered if NJ or MD residents do not apply or qualify.

James R. Manwaring Scholarship
This scholarship is open to graduate students in the Teaching and Leadership Department and its programs in the School of Education. Applicants should be a C.A.S or Doctoral student.

Linda Hoenig Scholarship
This scholarship was created by the Laura and Ronald H. Hoenig Foundation.  It provides support to a graduate student who is pursuing a career in teaching elementary or secondary education.  Preference will be given to a student who has prior classroom teaching experience through the School of Education or a similar teaching program.

Lynne Langberg Stybel Scholarship
This scholarship perpetuates the memory of Lynn Langberg Stybel by assisting graduate students enrolled in the School of Educaiton.  It is awarded on the basis of merit and/or need.

Margaret A. Charters SU Abroad Award

This scholarship is adminstered by SU Abroad.  If interested, contact your Department Chair for recommendations to the SU Abroad office and apply directly to:http://suabroad.syr.edu/

You may not apply for this application through the School of Education.

 


Margaret P. Stafford Traditions Scholarship
This scholarship is open to graduate students in the School of Education.

Marshall M. Gelfand Special Education Scholarship

This scholarship is open to graduate students in Special or Inclusive Education in the Teaching and Leadership Department with a preference for those working with students with learning disabilites.


Peter B. Mosenthal Graduate Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is for graduate students in the Reading and Language Arts Department at the School of Education with preference given to a minority student, or a student from a rural area, or a student dedicated to working with such populations. 

An applicant for this award is required to submit an essay with his/her application.  The essay will address the applicant's experience in working with minority and/or rural populations and his/her career interests and goals.  The essay should be no longer than two type-written pages with standard font size and margins.


Roland & Barbara Cook Scholarship for Teacher Education
This scholarship is open to graduate students in the Teaching Preparation Program in the Teaching and Leadership Department at the School of Education.

School of Education Dean's Scholarship
This scholarship is open to graduate students at the School of Education.

Shelly Baum Schechtman-Jacobson Scholarship
This scholarship perpetuates the memory of Shelley Baum Schectman-Jacobson.  It supports a graduate student at the School of Education.  

Steven Apter Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is open to graduate students in the Counseling and Human Services Department and its programs in the School of Education. Applicants will be chosen among graduate students working with students/children with challenging behaviors or enrolled in a program related to the same.

William M. Millard Instructional Tech. Grad. Scholarship
This scholarship is open to graduate students in the Instructional Design Development and Evaluation Department at the School of Education?
