Science Education
Recent advances in science and technology have revolutionized the way we live. Science teachers face the challenge of helping students learn the processes, skills and body of scientific knowledge necessary to function effectively in our technological world.
Our science education program offers you a variety of opportunities. You can choose your intended field of study from four programs: Science Education/Biology; Science Education/Chemistry; Science Education/Earth Science; or Science Education/ Physics.
In each program, you will receive a broad science background. You complete 24 credits in your chosen primary area, 15 credits in a second area, and coursework in other areas, all of which maintain excellent laboratory facilities. We encourage you to enhance your studies by becoming involved in special science programs such as the Frontiers in Science lecture series and weekly high school science enrichment workshops. With additional coursework, you may also pursue certification in a second science area.
The Science Education Program bridges the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education and you earn one science education Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) diploma granted by both colleges. In addition, the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and the School of Education offer a joint program to prepare science teachers.
