Music Education
We have designed our Music Education program to provide you with strong foundations in music and teaching. You may elect one of two emphases: instrumental music education or choral/elementary music education.
You will learn all about musical disciplines, including principal and secondary performance area, music history and theory, sight-singing, dictation, and conducting and ensemble participation. In addition, you will develop teaching skills through courses in classroom management and curriculum development.
On-campus performances strengthen your own performance ability through your work in ensembles and other musical venues. You may have many opportunities to use your skills in the classroom. Student teaching in various settings and grade levels provides diverse experiences and helps you obtain the professional and personal skills you need to become skilled, flexible, and confident music teacher. This program leads to a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) degree and is your first step toward earning certification to teach music in the schools.
