Pathways to College Success:

See the Pathways to College Success Project Web site for information about this exciting longitudinal research study on innovative academic assistance programs.

Dr. Stacey Lane Tice is currently involved in the "National Survey Project of Programs and Initiatives That Enhance Academic Life." This project will strive to look at current trends in preparing graduate students and new faculty for faculty life. Attention will be paid to such areas as how scholarship is integrated into preparation programs, the application of new technologies, the intricacy of faculty roles within different departments, and diversity in higher education. The project involves surveys of current preparation programs, a review of current research related to the topic, and short papers from key national leaders. This project is unique in looking across the nation and university-wide to collect information, from individual departments to professional associations. The work will also include a critical assessment of best practices in the field.

Dr. Vincent Tinto is fully engaged in the Lumina Foundation for Education funded longitudinal study of developmental education learning communities. The project, though initially funded for three years, is likely to extend to five years in order to track student progress through the higher education system. He is also participating in a new Social Science Research Council project to establish an integrated, interdisciplinary, understanding of multi-dimensional process of transition to college. Finally, he is involved in a first of its kind international study of student retention that includes European, Scandinavian, North American, and Asian countries.
