Counseling and Human Services

Master of Science in Community Counseling

The Master of Science in Community Counseling is a 48-credit progam that prepares students for employment in a variety of human service venues including community mental health counseling, career counseling, substance abuse services, counseling with youth, crisis counseling, and counseling persons who have experienced domestic violence. The program of study consists of core counseling courses, specialized courses appropriate to prepare the students to work in community agencies, and clinical experiences in community counseling settings. Required Courses

In addition to courses specific to community counseling, students complete core courses that meet the curriculum requirements of CACREP. These required courses are as follows:

*SWK 725 Psychopathology 3
COU 727 Foundations of Mental Health Counseling 3
**COU 790 Internship in Counseling 6

*SWK 725 or an equivalent course.

**The internship must be completed in a mental health setting.

Electives

The remainder of the 48-credit hour program is made up of electives. Students have a variety of courses from which to choose within the Counseling and Human Services department, but are also allowed to choose related courses outside of the department. CHS offers the folllowing elective options:
