Admission Procedures
Applicants for the Master's degree programs should have:
- A baccalaurate degree from a regionally accredited college/university
- At least a 2.7 undergraduate grade point average
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT)
- Some relevant work experience
Applicants for the Ph.D. program in Counselor Education and Supervision must have:
- A master's degree in counseling or an equivalent degree
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE + Writing/Analytic)
- Work experience in counseling and human services
- At least a 3.25 graduate grade point average
Admission procedures include the following application materials:
- General application for admission to graduate study at Syracuse University
- Department supplemental applications for admission: M.S./ Ph.D.
- Three letters of recommendation from persons who can speak to your academic potential and to your personal qualifications for graduate study in counseling
- Transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate study
- A personal statement which defines your motivation to seek graduate study and your future career ambitions
- Audiotaped conversation (in English) with another person regarding your reasons for wanting to study at Syracuse (International Masters degree applicants only)
- Graduate Record Examination scores
- A videotape of a counseling session which demonstrates your counseling skills. The tape should be accompanied by a signed release by the client who is participating in the session and commentary about the session (see Department application). (Doctoral applicants only)
A personal interview with the faculty of Counseling and Human Services. Arrangements for the personal interview will be made after receipt of all application materials. Master's interviews are often group interviews. Phone interviews can be arranged if face to face interviews are not possible
Application Deadlines
Doctoral applications must be received by January 1.
MS and CAS applications for admission are reviewed three times per year and must be submitted by the following dates: January 15, June 1, October 1.
