Program Components and Courses

The Media & Education C.A.S. is designed to be completed in one year of part-time study. The program is capped on each end with a full-time week of on-campus residency. Other courses are completed online.

A Four-Part Program

  1. Syracuse Summer Institute (early July)
    Two-week residency session on campus at Syracuse University where participants engage in an intense workshop and seminar environment. The major focus on the Summer Institute is to strengthen and integrate the foundations of storytelling and critical thinking and they relate to the convergence of meid and education.

  2. Workplace Practicum: Project Development (September-December)
    Online interaction from your educational settings (classrooms, labs, offices, field locations) as you research, develop, script, and plan a media project related to your specific educational environment and addressing your specific educational objectives. Includes weekly online interaction your instructor and cohort.

    • M&E 621 M&E Practicum: Project Development (3 credits)

  3. Workplace Practicum: Project Development (January-May)
    Online interaction from your educational settings as your initiate and complete your media project. Includes weekly online interaction your instructor and cohort focusing on problem solving and constructive feedback on your project at all milestones along project completion.

    • M&E 622 M&E Practicum: Project Execution (3 credits)

  4. Syracuse Screening (early July)
    One-week residency session in Syracuse where participants work together on final elements of their projects and prepare them for presentation. Projects will be presented in a public screening, which will allow for a Q&A session for students and feedback for educational evaluation of the project. Students will have opportunities to revise and edit for final publication and distribution.The focus of this session will be on project evaluation and effectiveness and insights for the future.
