M.S. in Inclusive Special Education (Grades 7-12)

This program is right for you, if…

  • You hold or will hold an undergraduate degree in any field of study (teaching or non-teaching), and want to be prepared to work with students with disabilities in middle and high schools.  (Some liberal arts requirements apply.  See information on courses.)  No experience in education or another certification is required to enter this program.
  • You want a degree that builds on the long and distinguished traditions of inclusive education and disability studies of Syracuse University faculty.
  • You believe that all students deserve access to high quality classroom and social opportunities.
  • You want a program that combines theory with extensive, half-day practice in schools.  Placements are arranged to meet the needs of both part time and full time students.
  • You want a master’s degree that will meet the academic requirements for the Students with Disabilities (7-12) Generalist teaching certificate in New York State.  The certificate gives you the credential to support the learning of students with disabilities in general education classrooms as a consultant, specialist, or resource teacher.  (Candidates with 18 credits in one of the grade 7-12 academic content areas may apply to New York State directly to extend their certification to teach that subject in a self-contained special education classroom.)
  • You want to complete your master’s degree and meet the academic requirements for professional certification within no more than 15 months of full-time study, beginning in a summer session;
  • Or, you want the option to complete your program part time.
  • With full-time study (9 credits or more), you would like to take advantage of a 25% reduction in tuition with the High Needs Scholarship.
