Student backgrounds

The program opens up the pathway for entering school district business leadership to students from a variety of educational and career backgrounds including:

  1. Candidates concurrently pursuing the School of Education’s Certificate of Advanced Study (C.A.S.) program in Educational Leadership;
  2. education practitioners who have a masters degree, advanced preparation in school administration, and are already certified as school district leaders;
  3. candidates concurrently pursuing a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) program in Maxwell; and
  4. public, private, or nonprofit administrators with a masters degree, who are interested in getting certification as School District Business Leaders.

What do I need to apply?

  • Graduate teacher preparation and school leadership candidates must submit:
    • Competitive scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Miller Analogy Test (MAT), or other acceptable, nationally normed admissions examination. Please note that in-service teachers and school administrators who have completed a master’s degree and have obtained teacher certifications are not required to submit GRE or MAT exam scores.
    • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0.
    • Personal essay demonstrating candidates’ beliefs about student learning, commitment to diversity, enthusiasm for learning, willingness to foster collaboration, and ethics.

What is the Application Deadline?

Applications are considered on a rolling basis. Those who wish to apply for a School of Education Scholarship should apply by January 15 for the following fall semester. Applications are considered for Fall, Spring or Summer start dates. School of Education scholarship questions should be directed to Angela Flanagan at 315-443-4754.
