What do I need to apply?
Criteria for Admission
- Initial New York State certification in a classroom teacher field
- A satisfactory undergraduate grade point average (typically 3.0 or better)
- 12 credits in a language other than English
- An earned bachelor’s degree
- Strong teacher and/or employer recommendations
- A personal statement that makes a clear and compelling argument for why the applicant wants to teach English language learners
Application deadline
The deadline for applications to the master’s program in Teaching English Language Learners is January 15, to coincide with the application deadline for School of Education
scholarships. Qualified applicants will be considered for admission on a rolling basis after this date if space is available.
