Careers

What can I do with my degree?

The need for teachers of English language learners is growing in New York state as well as in other parts of the United States.  This is due to the increasing numbers of English language learners entering the US yearly.

Our inaugural cohort of students in Teaching English Language Learners graduated in August, 2010.  All of the newly certified candidates have found positions as ESL teachers in the Syracuse City School District and in Maryland.  We expect that some future graduates of our program may also continue as elementary or subject-specialist teachers with a deep knowledge of how to support the learning of English language learners in their classes.

To request contact information for alumni who have agreed to communicate with prospective students about their experiences in the Teaching English Language Learners program, email Rebecca Freeland at rbfreela@syr.edu.
