Ph.D. Concentration in Exercise Physiology

Doctoral study with an emphasis in exercise physiology is offered in conjunction with the School of Education’s Ph.D. degree program in science education. Doctoral students join faculty members in an active community of scholarship and practice and engage in cutting-edge research leading to a Ph.D. dissertation.

Our graduate faculty are composed of leading scholars in a variety of specialties, and we have earned a reputation for excellence in every facet of academic enterprise: teaching, grant-funded research, publication, and active involvement in professional and community service projects.

We have a dominant research focus on the basic sciences and chronic disease, and we are committed to improving people’s lives through physical activity.

Admissions Details

Students are admitted into the doctoral program at either phase I or phase II. Phase I doctoral students are admitted holding a bachelor’s degree and follow the research track curriculum at the M.S. level. On successful completion of phase I requirements, and with the approval of the Exercise Science Graduate Affairs Committee, phase I students are elevated to phase II status. A student who holds an M.S. degree in exercise science, or a related discipline, may be admitted directly into phase II of the program at the discretion of the graduate affairs committee.
