Clinical Faculty
Melissa Carman, Ph.D., LMHC, is a Staff Therapist and the Family Outreach Coordinator at the Syracuse University Counseling Center. Melissa earned her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from the CHS Department at SU and has been teaching courses in the department since 2004. She has taught Developmental Issues of College Aged Adults at the undergraduate level, the Master’s level Research Methods course, and both the Master’s Practicum and Internship courses.
Kathryn S. Castle, Ph.D., MHC is also a Primary Therapist in the Mental Health Clinic at Rochester Rehabilitation Center in Rochester, NY. Kathy has been connected with CHS since 2003 and has nearly ten years of experience in the practice of Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling. Her dissertation, entitled “Attachment, Wellness, and Disordered Eating in College Women” earned a 2009 Syracuse University Dissertation Award. Kathy holds the National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) certifications from the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). She also earned a Certificate in University Teaching from Syracuse University. She is a member of the Sigma Upsilon Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota counseling honorary society. She has taught the Group Counseling course for CHS Masters students; co-taught the Advanced Group Counseling course for CHS Doctoral students; and served as a guest speaker in the Doctoral-level Multivariate Statistics course, lecturing on Structural Equation Modeling. She has also taught the CHS undergraduate course, Developmental Issues of College-Age Adults. She currently teaches the Master’s-level Assessment in Counseling and Counseling Prepracticum courses at Syracuse University.
Christopher Cederquist, LCSW-R, CASAC, is an adjunct faculty member in the Counseling and Human Services Department. He has a Masters Degree in Social Work from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts from Valparaiso University in Indiana. He is currently Assistant Director at the Syracuse University Counseling Center where he has worked since 1996 providing clinical services as well as supervision. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor. Chris has been in the mental health field for over 30 years. He has worked in inpatient, intensive outpatient and outpatient substance abuse programs. He also has worked Crouse Hospital’s employee assistance program (HELP People) and the SU Counseling Center using a short-term mental health treatment model. In addition, he carried a private practice for approximately ten years. He has taught the Substance Abuse Counseling course for CHS.
Tamara L. Clingerman Ph.D., LMHC. completed her doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision at Syracuse University. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. She has been connected with CHS since 2001 and has served as an individual clinical supervisor and has taught a variety of courses including Group Work in Counseling, Counseling Prepracticum, Practicum in Counseling, and Internship in Counseling. Tamara has nearly 15 years experience in clinical practice, which includes 6.5 years as a drug and alcohol prevention counselor in a middle school setting and 8.5 years as a staff therapist in various college counseling settings. Currently she is a Mental Health Counselor in the Wellness Center at St. John Fisher College. Her therapeutic approach is highly integrative, with a foundation in psychodynamic and humanistic theories, centered on object relations and interpersonal therapies. She also integrates cognitive-behavioral and gestalt techniques into her therapeutic work.
Christine Hoskins-Tardibone, Ph.D., N.C.C. is a member of the Clinical Faculty of the Counseling and Human Services Dept. She is also a full-time school counselor in the Auburn Enlarged City School District. Christine has been connected with CHS since she entered the doctoral program in 1998 and graduated with her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision in 2002 from Syracuse University. She entered the field of education in 1986 when she received her B.S. degree in health science/athletic training and earned a teaching certificate in health education K-12. While serving on active duty in the U.S. Army she earned her M.Ed. in counselor education/school counseling from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro GA. She has nearly 18 years experience in the practice of school counseling and 4 years of experience in college counseling. She has also obtained the certification for Reality Therapy through the William Glasser Institute and served on the Board of Directors for Cayuga Counseling Services, Inc. a local non-profit counseling agency. She was the recipient of the 2006-07 New York State School Counselor of the Year Award and the 2009 Cayuga County Women of Distinction for her work in the school counseling field. She has taught the Prepracticum, Practicum, Internship and Leadership in School Counseling courses for CHS Masters students.
Paul F. Pickett, Ph.D., L.M.H.C. received both his masters degree (1985) and his doctorate degree (1988) from the Counseling and Human Services Department at Syracuse University. In addition to his Ph.D, Paul is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State, a National Certified Counselor, and a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor. Paul has been in private practice for over 20 years. He currently maintains a full-time private practice in Syracuse which provides psychotherapy, clinical supervision, and consulting services. Paul has been part of the clinical faculty of the Counseling and Human Services Department for many years. He has taught both practicum and internship at both the masters’ and doctoral level.
Susan U. Snyder, Ph.D., LMFT, is a member of the Clinical Faculty of the Counseling and Human Services Dept. She is also a Supervising Therapist at the Brownell Center of Liberty Resources, Inc. and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice. Sue has been connected with CHS since 2004 and has nearly thirty years experience in the practice of Marriage and Family Therapy. Her Ph.D. in Child and Family Studies and M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy are both from Syracuse University. She is an Approved Supervisor and Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). She has taught the Lifespan Human Development course for CHS Masters students and currently teaches the Doctoral Practicum and Doctoral Internship courses.
Cory Wallack, Ph.D., is the Director at the Syracuse University Counseling Center. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Florida, and his B.A. is in psychology from the University of Virginia. His clinical interests include crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and eating disorders. Cory has been teaching for CHS since 2005. He has taught Crisis Intervention, Cultural Foundations of Counseling, and Practicum. Cory has additionally served on doctoral committees and the Counseling Center provides training opportunities for CHS doctoral students.
